Background to the Parents & Friends Association

The Parents & Friends Association (P&F) is a vital and valued part of the St Mary’s School community and operates in affiliation with Catholic School Parents WA (CSPWA). Working in partnership with the Principal and school staff, the P&F plays an important role in supporting the educational, social, and faith life of the school community.

The P&F aims to foster a welcoming and inclusive school community, grounded in shared faith, values, and a commitment to the wellbeing of students and families. Central to its role is friend-raising—creating opportunities for parents to connect with one another—and funraising—organising engaging activities that build joy and connection across the school community.

While fundraising forms part of the P&F’s activities, it is a means to support the school and enhance student opportunities, rather than the sole purpose of the Association. Through social events, community initiatives, and collaborative projects, the P&F strengthens relationships within the school community, enriches student experiences, and provides practical support to the school and its staff.

The P&F is currently seeking nominations from members of the school community for all P&F positions, and parents are warmly encouraged to consider nominating for a role.

Aims of the Parents & Friends Association

The Parents & Friends Association aims to:

  • Act in accordance with the aims and guidelines of Catholic School Parents WA.
  • Foster a welcoming and supportive community of parents, staff, and students that reflects a genuine Catholic ethos.
  • Work in partnership with school leadership, particularly the principal, to support shared goals for the school community.
  • Strengthen positive relationships between home and school through meaningful social and educational engagement.
  • Encourage parent participation and involvement in school programs, enriching the experience of families throughout their children’s schooling.
  • Provide a positive and respectful forum for ideas, dialogue, and discussion on matters that support and enhance student learning and wellbeing.
  • Support opportunities for parent formation in faith and develop understanding of the school’s Religious Education program.
  • Assist in the planning and organisation of social, sporting, cultural, and educational activities that enrich the life of the school community.
  • Support the provision of additional resources that benefit students and assist teachers.
