Welcome to Pre-Kindy
As the school year is about to begin, we wish you all a warm welcome to St Mary’s PreKindergarten. We are excited to share your child’s first year of school, an exciting year of new beginnings and learning.
Administration & Punctuality
Classrooms open at 8:25am.
Children are to organise themselves for the day, order lunch, go to the toilet, etc prior to 8.25am.
The roll will be taken at 8:30am.
If you arrive after 8:50am, please sign in at the front office.
Children are not allowed to run around on ovals, play on the playgrounds or play with equipment before and after school to ensure student safety and to adhere to insurance regulations.
What To Bring
In Pre-Kindergarten, we need to have three (3) containers for meals
- Recess
- Lunch
- Crunch ‘n’ Sip (fruit or vegetables only)
- Water bottle (filled with water only)
- Hat
- Spare change of clothes
Please ensure ALL clothes and items are labelled clearly (including all containers, hates, shoes, socks and waterbottles).
What To Wear
Uniforms are not compulsory in Pre-Kindy, however, there is a Pre-Kindy t-shirt available to be purchased through the uniform shop if you wish.
Please ensure that your child’s clothes are comfortable for play, including messy work, and that they are wearing appropriate footwear (please no thongs, slides, crocs or heels).
Please no singlet tops or spaghetti straps as children’s shoulders are very prone to getting burnt. Overalls are hard for your child to manage when toileting (especially as we tend to wait for the last minute to go!).
Shoulder length hair or longer must be tied back.

Leaning Overview
In Pre-Kindergarten, we believe in the power of play!
- Play is fundamental for a child’s holistic development, acting as a crucial tool for learning, emotional regulation, and physical growth.
- It fosters cognitive abilities (problem-solving, creativity), strengthens social skills (empathy, negotiation), oral language, mathematical pre numeracy skills and helps to foster independence.
- Play builds resilience, independence, and confidence while preparing children for a lifetime of learning.
How To Help
- Read aloud to your child and sing nursery rhymes
- Practise counting during everyday activities, such as when you are setting the table, tidying or shopping
- Regularly check emails/Seesaw for updates
- Encourage independence – remembering all equipment, packing own bags and unpacking the bag at school, doing up zips on bags and buttons on shirts, opening food containers.
- Encourage your child to dress themselves

Please ensure you are set up on SeeSaw as teachers will post about student learning and notices.
Behaviour Support
As we begin the year with your very young children our behaviour management is heavily based on giving your children the support to make more informed choices.
We will talk with them about what has happened, what caused the incident and how to repair any relationships in the class. If the behaviour is consistent or affects any other children in the class we will talk to you as the parents and formulate a guide to work on the behaviours.
