OLD ADMINISTRATION BLOCK

Old Chapel building

The Early Days

The Old Administration Block has an original pressed tin ceiling and the St John of God logo above the front door.

This building was up until 1980 part of the living quarters of the Sisters of St John of God. The larger room by the entry was the Drawing Room where the Sisters sat after dinner and mended their stockings and habits.

The long room was the Sister’s dining room. The beautiful window frames give us an idea of what a lovely space this would have been for the Sisters.

1980-2000

After the Convent was closed and the building was gifted to the school in 1980 this became the Administration area of the school. The Drawing Room became the Principal’s Office and the smaller room held the Bursar’s Office, and Sick Bay. The long room became the Staff Room.

In 1991, Sister Kathleen Hitchcock, the current Principal; of the school was granted permission to move the façade of the front of the building one metre out to gain more room for the Office. This building is listed as a building of historical significance in Kalgoorlie.

2000-Today

This building is still widely used in the school. With the building of a new administration area, this building took on the role of a support centre for children needing a “little extra help” with their learning. Christened “The Learning Hub” it now caters for Reading Recovery, Emu Maths, Mini and MacqLit, a sensory room and the very popular Lego Therapy Room. All designed to meet the learning needs of a diverse group within the school.
