STATUE OF ST JOHN OF GOD

Old Chapel building

The Statue of St John of God was originally situated in the circular drive of the St John of God Hospital. The Hospital buildings were located on the site where the Trish Dawson Oval has been developed. The hospital closed in 1980, and the buildings were converted into a private Nursing Home.

The Nursing home closed in 2002, and the buildings were purchased by the Perth Archdiocese for additions to the school. The statue had been relocated and was “lost” for some years. It was finally found by Harry Argus a member of the St Mary’s Parish. In 2018 the statue was kindly returned to its rightful place. Bishop Justin Bianchini attended the school for a combined celebration with the Parish to bless the returned statue.

The plaque near the statue acknowledges the work of the Sisters of St John of God in the hospital and at our school. The stone was cut from the old altar that was in their Chapel, which had been gifted to the school in 1980.
